Have Time & Money – Where Shall I Go?

Sometimes Spontaneous Travel Is the Best Travel

Do you ever find that you’ve contracted a bad case of “Cabin Fever” or “Friday-itis”? Or, maybe you just have some vacation time coming, and you’ve decided that now is the time to use it?

Now, the problem is – you just don’t know where to go or what to do with your vacation?

Kayak Travel Search Engine Can Help!

Kayak is a travel search engine started by the co- founders of Orbitz, Travelocity and Exprdia to create a better online travel experience.

Kayak will let you search hundreds of travel sites (flights, hotels, rental cars and even cruises) and then take you directly to the vendor’s site so you can complete your purchase. They even allow you to set up alerts.

Kayak itself is not a travel merchant – it has no inventory and doesn’t sell anything. It makes money when you click one of its advertisements (much like Google and Yahoo) – but the service itself is free.

Reviews

Kayak has received the following accolades:

  • “Best of the Web” – BusinessWeek
  • “Best of thenWeb” – Forbes.com
  • “50 Coolest Websites” – TIME
  • So, next time you get that restless feeling and the urge to do something new or different, check out Kayak!

    Happy Trails!

8.8 Earthquake Hits Chile

Major Earthquake Hits Chile

The recent serious earthquake in Chile, the resulting tsunami waves already reaching Hawaii, and the tsunami warning throughout the Pacific Rim again points out the need to include emergency preparedness planning in your travel plans.

Tourists – Keep Safety First

There are reports of about 1,000 Americans in Chile right now, and tourism is a major business for them.  Although they have been relatively fortunate in that loss of life has been low (about 214 people reported dead), property damage has been extensive, roads and the Santiago airport heavily damaged.

Google has responded by implementing a “People Finder” service for those trying to locate friends and family in the affected areas (see article referenced below), and Mashable is also providing Chile-specific services.

Include Safety & Emergency Travel Planning

Include safety and emergency planning in your travel planning and prep. Be sure that you carry backup copies of all your important ID, travel papers, prescriptions and that you have plenty of required medications.

Also, be sure to develop a family plan of action should you get separated – what family member back home to contact, details for contacting the American Embassy if traveling abroad, tools such as the Google People Finder described in the article referenced above.

Baby Boomers Expect a Retirement Filled With Satisfying Leisure Time Activities

Baby Boomers are moving into retirement in increasing numbers. Already, approximately 1/3 of adults in the U.S. (over age 21), is a Baby Boomer, and every day, 10,000 more people hit their 50th birthdays. But they consider this period of their lives to be “Middle” Age – not “Old” Age. Boomers tend to look 10 years younger than their chronological ages, they’re stronger and healthier than previous generations at the same age, and consequently, they’re going to remain active for many years.

As a group, Boomers tend to play hard, work hard and spend hard – and this characteristic is likely to continue into retirement (the “Me Generation” is at it again). About 80% expect to work (either full or part-time) past their 65th birthdays; however, when they play – they’re likely to continue to play hard and spend hard, just like always.

So how do they plan to spend all this leisure time?

* They will continue to be interested in things like luxury travel and vacation packages at preferred hotels and resorts around the world.
* Boomers are heavily invested, even obsessed, with health and fitness, so things like spas, health clubs, active sports, etc. will also be highly sought after.
* Their nostalgic tendencies will continue to popularize music and entertainment 50s and 60s style.
* They’re also committed to being lifelong learners and will actively pursue a variety of educational and learning opportunities, whether serious ones (such as graduate school and advanced degrees, or starting their own businesses) or more informal such as those related to hobbies and other interests.
* Many Baby Boomers are grandparents, and heavily invested in their roles as grandparents. Consequently, they’ll spend lots of time with their grandchildren.
* Many will be retiring “in place,” rather than relocating to the Sunbelt or other traditional retirement venues. Consequently, they’ll spend lots of time and energy redecorating and upgrading their homes – in ways that make life easier and more comfortable on a daily basis.

In general, Baby Boomers are highly motivated to fill their retirement years with interesting and exciting activities that will help keep them young and allow them express their gifts and talents, socialize with family and friends, or travel to exciting locales around the world.

Baby Boomers Love to Travel!

One of the biggest advantages of retirement is time … and the freedom to enjoy that time.

Escape from the Rat Race

Many Baby Boomers have spent decades working at jobs that were highly scheduled – with meetings and activities tightly packed from breakfast til dinner, and frequently, after dinner as well. Between work schedules and family schedules (soccer practice, music lessons, etc), the one thing they longed most for was some unstructured time in which they could do whatever they wanted – without worrying about their beeper going off, or the cellphone ringing, or a bunch of emails queuing up in the Blackberries.

A Great, Big “Bucket List”

They have a penchant for adventure and “experience”, and consequently, many have a long list of things they want to do, see, or accomplish before they die, i.e., they have a very long “Bucket List.”

Health & Stamina

As a group, they are healthier than previous generations – they even tend to look about 10-12 years younger than their chronological ages. For decades, Baby Boomers bragged that they were “never going to grow old.” Now, it’s up to them to deliver on that promise – and they intend to do just that during their very active retirements.

Fewer Responsibilities

While most (83%) have married and have children, about 34% are “Empty Nesters,” and 12% never married (about twice the average of their parents’ generation), so they don’t have the responsibilities of children at home, thus freeing their time to start their own businesses, pursue their life-long passions, explore life, and simply enjoy other interests.

Money to Spend

As a generation, they are also relatively affluent, and therefore, can purchase additional services that save them time and make their lives easier (e.g., lawn services, maid services).

Increasingly Internet-Savvy

Contrary to a lot of people’s pre-suppositions, Baby Boomers are not internet illiterates – in fact, it was their generation that invented the internet! Currently, Boomers and other seniors represent the fastest growing group on Facebook, with women over 55 making up the single fastest growing segment of Facebook users. Many will look to the internet to start new businesses (either full-time, or part-time) to keep them involved in the world at large and supplement their retirement incomes, ensuring that they have plenty of money to spend on their leisure-time pursuits.

Wide Open Consumer Market

This time freedom, coupled with health, vitality, and disposable income, is a dream come true for marketers – if they choose to embrace the Baby Boomer market. Boomers will seek out products and services that teach them something, inspire them, create adventure in their lives, or give them an interesting experience that they’ll remember for the rest of their lives.

If you’re a Boomer who wants to self-actualize by traveling and getting to know other cultures, check out the discounts available here: Primo Vacation Discounts.

Primo Vacations Club Discount Vacation Packages

We all need to take an occasional break from work, household duties and the pressure of the city we live in – and the escape to a popular resort with the family is a great time to put everything aside and have fun.

But what if your budget is tight and you don’t think you have the money to go to a luxurious tropical paradise?

Well, the good news is that Primo Vacations Club provides a variety of low-cost vacation packages, with discounts typically about 30% and “Hot Deals” that offer discounts up to 80%. You just need to go and check the availability. Primo Vacations Club has a discount vacation package designed for every pocket.

Set a budget and then see what you can get for your money. There are differences between a low-cost vacation package in the US vs. a good vacation deal abroad. While the accommodation expenses may vary little, airfare can have a significant effect on the overall cost of your trip. Normally, even for far-away holiday destinations, you can still find good prices if you know when to shop. Planning your vacation six months in advance will bring considerable savings.

To see just how much you can save, check out your desired destination by searching the internet, then check out the price you can get from Primo Vacations Club. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised! (Maybe you can even afford two vacations this year, instead of just one!)

Another solution to find the perfect low-cost vacation package is to shop by interest. Do you have any particular purpose for choosing a certain destination? Families will be interested in kid-friendly resorts, couples will go for romantic spots, while people with sports hobbies will follow their calling.

To get the best prices, you have basically two choices: book early or wait for the “Hot Deals”. Either way, if you use Primo Vacations Club, you can rest assured you’ll be getting the best possible prices for luxury resorts and hotels worldwide.
