Disney Has Cruise Ships, Too!
When you’re planning your vacation and you think “Disney,” do you think cruise ship? I was surprised to learn that the Disney entertainment empire has expanded to include cruises as well as land-based theme parks (maybe you’re surprised, too?).
The Disney Cruise Line includes two ships, the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder. Both ships usually depart from Port Canaveral, Florida and travel the Caribbean. Disney Magic made its maiden voyage on July 30, 1998.
Disney Means FAMILY Vacation
As always with all Disney resorts, you’ll find a great family experience aboard ship – with activities for all ages from the small fry to the grown ups.
To meet the needs of families, the state rooms have been designed to be larger than the traditional stateroom. And, amazingly, the majority of the rooms have ocean views and most of the staterooms have bathrooms designed to let two people get ready at the same time.
Cruise Atmosphere is Subtle & Up-Scale
While these two ships carry the philosophy and ambience of Disney parks everywhere, and your favorite cartoon characters are aboard – their presence is very subtle (meaning, you’ll have to have sharp eyes to spot them!).

The overall atmosphere of the ships is that of the traditional sea-faring trans-Atlantic crossings, with a splash of art-deco thrown in for good measure.
Say “Hello” to Vacation Fun!
The vacation experience begins with the traditional Sail-Away Party where passengers can “wave goodbye” to their daily cares and frustrations and begin to get into the vacation/holiday spirit.
The shorter cruises go to Nassau, Bahamas while the 7-night cruises go to eastern and western Carribbean. Most cruises include a stop on Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay.
